Whitley Common, Whitley Bridge and Whitley Grove

Whitley Bridge Wildflower Meadow

Whitley boasts a variety of Green spaces.

Whitley Common as most people know it is  the formal park south of London Road, and nowadays rather dominated by the junction of London Road and the Stivichall/Cheylesmore by-pass (But this junction also includes many bridges and underpasses, making interesting footpaths).  The formal park includes a Car Park and Childrens' playground, plus an expanse of open managed grassland with a few trees.

To the North-West across Daventry Road, footpaths lead through a wooded area to London Road Cemetery South, and through this "new" part of the cemetery to the London Road Conservation Area.

To the South, between Leaf Lane and the by-pass is another area of rough grassland which is a little known part of Whitley Common.

Notice almost lost in the long grass on Whitley Common between Leaf Lane and the by-pass

To the East is Whitley Bridge, with the adjacent Wildflower Meadow, the footpaths beside the River Sherbourne and the ancient bridge.

Across the bridge, after a short distance on the quiet suburban roads you reach the southern end of the Sowe Valley Footpath at Whitley Grove.  Beyond Whitley Grove to the South-East is more open grassland, with paths leading to Baginton Fields.

Good for Dogs rating: 2 dogs

Plenty of areas of open grassland, but rather too many roads.
