Hi All,
1.
"The
Story of Coombe Abbey" - an updated internet version of the book "The
Story of Coombe Abbey by D.L.Motkin published by the House Committee of Coombe
Abbey in 1961" - has now been declared live. Many of you will have noticed
that when I added the "Coombe Woodlands" brochure in November last year, I
promised to add support by publishing "The Story of Coombe Abbey" on the
internet. I contacted David Motkin to get his agreement, and was
delighted with his offer not only to publish the 1961 words, but to improve
them considerably. The new version corrects errors, adds more facts,
adds events to bring it up to date, and adds more Annexes. David has done
most of the writing, while I have obtained reference information
from Coventry and Warwickshire sources to support David's quest for
accuracy. I have also visited Coombe Abbey many times, getting or
confirming more facts, and taking hundreds of digital photos to support
them. I have also taken photos to support the "Then and Now" set of
illustrations.
Now that "The Story of Coombe Abbey" is on the internet, further
corrections or updates can be added easily. If you have new information,
or other suggestions please let me know.
3. Merged the "just outside Coventry" entries into the main index table on
the home page. This was in line with the only views any of you expressed,
and has the advantage that all areas are linked on the one page.
4. I have added a few more little extras. See the
news
archive for the list of most significant items.
Many of these improvements have only been possible due to feedback from
users. Please keep your ideas coming. In particular, let me
know what you would like to see added and/or improved on the site.
Regards
PS - This newsletter is addressed To:
newsletter.distribution @ coventry-walks.org.uk (which gets forwarded to me so I feel it worked!) with Bcc:
"Distribution list containing all your addresses". You should NOT see all
these addresses, and you may not even see your own (depending on your mail
system). This method respects your privacy rights, and avoids you having
to read past a long list of addresses. I trust this works
OK.
