A new header has been created. This has been added to the top of most HTML pages, and (will) replace the old header.
The old header was implemented as a top frame. This caused problems for people who entered the site on a specific page. In many cases the only way to get to other pages was to go to the bottom of the page, and from there click the link to the Home Page - not very user friendly for new visitors!
The disadvantages of the new implementation is that to update the header again, I will now have to update all pages again. It also means downloading a little bit more data for each page you visit, and the header gets printed on all those pages.
The design of the new header is similar to the old one, but with a few "improvements". These are:
As part of the update, all pages have also been updated to use CSS stylesheets. This has been done by a global edit of the top of each page. To gain full advantage, a manual edit is also needed of all pages to remove now redundant formatting within the body of the page. In a few cases where I am aware unpredictable results occur without such an edit, I have already tried to complete the edit - any urgent edits I have missed I will try to pick up during testing, the rest will be done progressively over the coming weeks.
All pages now use the same Style, based on Arial font. This means all those previously in Times New Roman font have changed, and the layout may not be quite the same. If (e.g.) the content owners of a particular set (e.g. Conservation Areas) would prefer to return to a Times New Roman font, or other style differences this is fairly easy to do. Please e-mail or phone.
As part of the update, all pages have also been updated to use CSS stylesheets. There may be errors caused by update - I have checked all pages, and corrected any errors found, but would welcome an e-mail telling me if you find others.
