The Lake was planned but never constructed. That leaves an even larger stretch of grassland, with the River Sherbourne flowing through the middle.
The park also contains Grants Wood Nature Reserve, and to the south is a large area of cultivated allotments and over-run allotments.
The whole forms a good walk in its own right, but also makes a link to the Coundon Wedge with only a short stretch of the Holyhead Road in between.
The link road from the City Centre is rather longer, but takes in Spon Street, the old bridge over the River Sherbourne, Spon End and passes the Chapelfields conservation area on route.
Together they allow a good long walk from the City Centre to Allesley - the nearest thing we have to a Sherbourne Valley Footpath?
But what about a walk covering all the course of the River
Sherbourne? If you study the map, you can find paths near the
Sherbourne from the source (Map11 H5) to
the point the Sherbourne flows into the River Sowe (Map42 R22). Even better the
Sherbourne Trust are
working on establishing a path from further up the valley at Corley Moor
village to the River Sowe, and as you will se from their website have a target
for 1-Apr-2012 to have defined and documented the route from Corley Moor
village to Coventry Cathedral for the Coventry Pilgrimage
event.

Excellent place for dogs. Lots of open grass, rough grass, a river, a stream and woodland. Apart from at the Four Pounds Avenue end, it is mostly well clear of roads.
