Transcript from Coventry City Council brochure published Oct-2002

Canley Woodlands
Park Wood and Ten Shilling Wood Walk

(Distance 2.2 Miles) Bus Services 19, 19w, 28 and 29

Park Wood is approximately 48 acres compared to the very much smaller Ten Shilling Wood of 12 acres.

Canley Woods provide pleasant and easy walking with a good system of footpaths, although they can become muddy in wet weather.

The ancient woodlands are shown on the earliest map of this area dating from 1776 and are designated Local Nature Reserves, presently under the control of Coventry City Council.

The woods contain the following variety of trees, English Oak, Sweet Chestnut, Silver Birch, Larch, Scots Pine and also provides a varied environment especially suited to herbaceous plants, butterflies and other animals living in the woodland edge, and to thicket nesting birds.

The changing seasons throughout the year, makes each visit interesting, with the changing colours, shades of light and variety of sounds.
