Hawkesbury Village GreenThe area now called Hawkesbury Village Green was rented by the Residents' Association for over 30 years as a play area for the local children. It was popularly known as the 'silver' and still is by some of the older residents. According to accepted belief, this name was derived from a silver slide made by local residents for the children. The plan for the green was drawn up after consultations with the local community, who wanted to incorporate natural areas such as a pond, a wildflower meadow and an orchard to encourage local wild life, and informal meeting areas and space for youngsters to play.
