Old Shepherd Recreation Ground - Oct-2002

Good Walking Areas for Dogs

Introduction

This guide was created at the request of a few users.  They wanted advice on the best areas for walking their dogs.  Not being an expert on such matters, I asked their advice on where they felt was good, and why.  This page, and the data elsewhere was based on their input - thanks very much for it.  I have done my best to extrapolate for all places indexed in "Other Good Walking Areas" on the Home page, and "graded" each as in table below.

I have also added comments to the Description pages for most graded 3 dogs, 2 dogs or 1 dog - a few were drafted by dog owners, but many would be improved with such expert input - contributions welcome.

Key:

3 dogs

Excellent.  Plenty of open grassland where your dog can run free, and interesting parts to explore.  Other people let their dogs off their leads, and all humans there seem happy with this.  Hedges well maintained with gates or animal friendly stiles.  No open roads nearby that the dogs could get to easily when off the lead.

2 dogs Good.
1 dog OK.
1 dog but beware of farm animals Farmland paths - need special care, but worth considering if your dog is very well behaved.
Most OK if your dog is on a lead,  but not recommended for dogs.

Comments

I know of no books or other references for such data.  I'm sure other dog owners will have their views, and may even know of a book?  ..or a website?  ..or a newsgroup?  ..or have a comment they would like adding to this site?  Please e-mail me e-mail me with any ideas.
