Coundon Wedge

COUNDON WEDGE GRASSLANDS - Bridge over River Sherbourne - Map23 G5 - Dec-2001

Excellent walking country in the Coventry "Green Belt" wedge, not effected as much as feared by the "recent" new road.

Many paths, but some get very muddy.  You can also keep to the old lanes, almost unused by motor vehicles now.  You will more likely meet cyclists - or cows!  A very popular area for walking dogs.

There is a small copse - Jubilee Copse - planted in 1995 to mark 60 years of the Ramblers Association.

The River Sherbourne flows through the area, plus a number of tributaries and ponds.

Good for Dogs rating: 3 dogs

Excellent for dogs.  A favourite place for most dog owners, with lots of variety and interest for them and their dogs.

New gate and Footpath sign - Map22 J11 - Feb-2004

Update Feb-2004: All stiles and poor gates to the east of Coundon Wedge Drive have been updated to new metal kissing gates with access wide enough for a push chair or small invalid chair - these are the new standard Coventry City Council plan to use for upgrading all main footpaths with over the next few years.  New signs have also been added, indicating public right of way (yellow) and permissive path (white arrow), and requesting appropriate use for people and dogs!

Update 2-Feb-2007 : Allesley & Coundon Wedge Conservation Society (ACWCS) have just launched their web-site.  See Exthttp://www.acwcs.org.uk/ for results (just a temporary page on 2-Feb-2007, but should soon gain useful data)
