Coundon Hall Park and Coundon Wood

Coundon Hall Park

Also known simply as "Coundon Park", this is one of Coventry's newer and less well known parks.  It is only shown on recent maps.

It is a large park, with many fine specimen trees within the park and the surrounding area.

The park has very few surfaced paths, but includes a childrens playground, many playing fields, old hedges left from the days when it was farmland and a Spinney.  Open countryside is just beyond the park boundary, even though the city boundary is still some 3 Km away.

Coundon Wood

In February 2005, the area to the SW of Coundon Hall Park (Map22  J7-K7) was opened as Coundon Wood.  A welcome new area to explore, it also provides a much improved walking route from Coundon Park to Coundon Wedge.

It is described by Coventry City Council as "A native community woodland ... created in partnership with the Forestry Commission and the local community, for your enjoyment and that of future generations".  The local community is represented by "The Friends of Coundon Wood".

Good for Dogs rating: 3 dogs

Excellent place for dogs.  Lots of open grassland, but also many hedges and a spinney with a pond.  Just outside the formal park to the SW is an area of rough grass, and another pond.  There are also good car parks.  The only down point is that the hedges along the side of the park near the road are in no way dog-proof, so due care is needed, but there is so much other space that you do not need to go near the road.
