Notes

  1. These print versions may not contain the latest information added to the internet version, but will be updated soon after any significant change is made to the content.

  2. Note that these are large files, and will take some time to download over a 56kb/s modem.  It is suggested that you right-mouse-click link, and select "save target as" (or whatever appropriate for your browser) then file on your PC for reading and/or printing later.

  3. The recommendations for how to print above are designed to give best results.  They will result in a "book" with a gutter margin to allow binding, while still making the best use of the available paper for display of text and pictures.  It is recommended that the Illustrations file is printed single sided in order to use the quality side of the paper (if applicable), and/or avoid seeing any trace of pictures printed on the other side.  If you prefer other options, (e.g. printing the illustrations in landscape mode, and therefore with larger pictures), print direct from the web pages.

  4. The A4 printable edition is created directly from the website data.  The set of master website documents are "printed" to Fineprint - by printing from the master documents (rather that the file on the internet) the Coventry Walks headers and footers are suppressed.  The browser (IE6) settings are made no header, no footer, paper size A4, left margin 7mm, right margin 1.16mm (which just allows the biggest illustration to fit across the page), top and bottom margins 0.12mms (minimum setting).  The cover document and this frontsheet are also printed to Fineprint, and put as first document.  The second document is from a modified version of the Contents page, enhanced to add page numbers for this set of chapters.  In Fineprint, the margins are set (small), the gutter margin is set (12.7mm) and "1 up" layout, double sided is selected, and stationery set to use "page number" template with parameters chosen for top header as centred, 8 point font size and page number preceded by text string "The Story of Coombe Abbey - page <page> ".   A few pages which contain only the bottom navigation table are deleted (i.e. set not to print).  Many other options are possible.
  5. It is also possible to create an A5 version.  The set of master website documents are "printed" to Fineprint.  The browser settings are set to "larger" font, no header, no footer, paper size (say) A4+ (223.5mm x 355.6mm).  From Fineprint, the "book" can then be printed as:
      · A5 pages on A5 paper,  or
      · 2A5 pages side by side on A4 paper,  or
      · as an "A5 booklet", automatically sorted to print as 2 pages/side on A4 paper, which when folded/stapled form an A5 booklet    or
      · many other options.
If users would like any such option I will consider adding later

  6. Any of these options can be printed to paper, or as a PDF file, suitable for reading or printing by others.
