Enjoy Coventry's New England colours!

 Coombe Abbey - October-2003

+ photo opportunity

This year the autumn colours of the trees in Coventry's parks and woodlands are putting on a display to equal New England in the fall! Local residents and visitors are invited to take advantage of this fantastic opportunity to experience at first hand the fantastic natural display of colours.

Coombe Country Park is particularly magnificent at the moment. Joe Taylor, Head Ranger enthused saying: 'the autumn colours here are just stunning! The dappled light filtering through the trees on our woodland paths create truly magical effects. Coombe's woodlands offer a range of walking routes and the main pathways allow easy access for people with disabilities. This is also a great time of year to spot the many beautiful waterfowl here. We also offer a range of woodland activities including fungus forays and a variety of ranger-led walks through the park. For the full programme of activities Coombe Country Park can be contacted by telephoning 024 7645 3720.'

A new set of five colourful leaflets giving details of just some of the many woodland walks in and around Coventry, is now available free of charge from libraries, public reception areas or by contacting Culture & Leisure Tel: 024 7683 2368. The leaflets cover woodlands in: Coombe Country Park, Kenilworth Road, Tile Hill, Canley and Willenhall. They give directions of how to access the woodlands both by public and private transport, walking routes, descriptions of the trees and wildlife and information about the history and management of the area.

Councillor Tony Skipper, Cabinet Member (Area Co-ordination and Leisure, Arts and Sport) said: The ancient woodlands of Coventry are one of our major assets offering peace and tranquillity within a busy city. They are there for everyone to visit and enjoy and I urge everyone to find time to experience them for themselves.'
